he Griffin (or Griffon or Gryphon) was a beast holding possession of the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. It was considered the king of beasts, and eagle were thought to be the kings of birds combining even more power into the griffin. Griffins were known to guard great deposits of unthinkable riches and treasures. Griffins were used in Greek art for decoration.
